FULFILL YOUR PASSION not what the others say!

Sometimes you have to do what is your passion. I started this blog just to see if I could do it, to see if I could write and someone would read. To see if people were interested in what I had to say.

My TRUE passion? It’s the world around us, it’s trying to make the world better for my children. At the moment I see a lot wrong with governments, wars, and how we are being treated as a nation, and it’s wrong. But, who is going to listen to little old me?

I haven’t posted on this blog for a while, I have been busy filming, videoing and trying to build a presence on you tube and getting my views out there. There are 1000s of blogs out there and I fell victim to the norm! I don’t like corporate giants and I don’t like what they stand for. I fell into the rut of:

Try this
Review this
publicize this and get more views and followers

And it just wasn’t me, i tried to do the same with you-tube some time ago, and i stopped as i just wasn’t happy with the content it was not who i was. There are more beauty bloggers out there than you can shake a stick at, are they REALLY passionate about the next big lipstick or eye shadow or is it for free stuff and popularity marks. I realize i may get shot down for these comments but i have to start saying what i feel. There is one YOUTUBER that i watch avidly although not for a few weeks now CASEY NIESTAT. He said “if you are doing what other people are doing you are doing it wrong”. And i think that is so true, BRAINFOOD almost became my baby, but was it really who i am? I look at it now and i say NO it really wasn’t!

I am so sorry to the people that have followed me on here with the content that  have produced so far, but i HAVE to produce content that i am passionate about and that is the world around us. I am far from what society would deem ACADEMIC but i am self educated in consciousness and the world. An now is the time that i have to produce that content as that is a what i am passionate about, someone nsaid to me once produce things that make you happy even if no one sees it.

Below is an “Episode” of my youtube channel show, and i am looking to change the name of this blog and th direction it is going. I am sorry if you still expect the content to be what i was but  HAVE TO do what makes ME happy and thanks to all those so far that have read my posts and subscribed to this blog and i hope you ill stay with me.

My birthday…..you got to love vinyl!

Every birthday as you get older become more subtle. It’s not about the presents anymore, but more about family and having them around you. I have actually thought like that for quite a while now.  The weekend before my birthday I was surrounded by family. It was my nieces birthday, her 25th and her house was packed. Way back when, I was out of touch with my family for a while  this will explain why It was really good to see people that I hadn’t seen in ages, and seeing how people had changed so much.

I’m now 44 but do I feel it? Do you know what I don’t. I am still very young at heart, and silly with it sometimes as well. There is the odd occasion where you’d think to yourself, can I get away with that at my age? Can I actually say that and post that on social Media at my age? And yes you can, and why not. I took a couple of days off work and went to stay at the in-laws, and I love that. It is very rare for me to take an unscheduled day off, eyes off the prize time. But every now and again you have to do it.

Pale pastel blue, retro look and feel

That was the perfect chance too, to enjoy the prezzie  that my Mrs got for me. A Crosley  cruiser…..no not some big American land automobile…..a record player. My other half always buys the best presents. More often than not she hangs on every word I say when it comes to prezzies. There is a record shop near us that I have been meaning to go in for a while. This was my chance, they have 1000s in there. It was like going back to my teenage years. You name it they probably had it.

Two albums and a single and £10 later I was a happy boy. The sound you get from vinyl is like no other. I bought and was playing……

I could actually feel the joy rising up, it made me happy. And that is what it is all about, spending time with family on a special day. The raspiness of the needle hitting the record, the lack of bass and tin like sound coming from the speakers. I have actually missed that, that sound of just what it was like in the studio. No gimmicks placed in the tune, no second hand natural disturbance taken out. It’s got character, and that feeds through to your whole body making it vibrate and twist whilst laughing at the same time.

I shall be buying more and rebuilding my collection that was damaged. Now to buy a cabinet that I will restore to a retro feel. Look out for that post soon 😊

Sounds good doesn’t it! It was probebrly the best birthday day for a while. I have my family to thank for that.

It would be really interesting to find out what vinyl you have. And what was your best day for a birthday? Let me in on your moment by commenting below.

Approaching 50? Have the time of your life!

Cardigans and checked shirts anyone?

Approaching 50, what does that even entail? Checked shirts, cardigans and a spot of gardening?. For me it doesn’t, I don’t even like gardening. Yes maybe a cardy but they CAN be worn with style. When I was a 20 something I used to look at my parents and think damn I can’t even imagine being 45! But now I’m almost there I do think, it’s actually just a number. Every year that goes by gradually getting closer to the big 5 0, it is just the number of years I have been alive on this planet. It’s not me, not the real me. The real me is having clothing theme changes at the drop of a hat. The real me is they guy that tries to look stylish no matter what I wear. In my mind I’m still 18, I laugh and joke with the kids and hide behind doors to make them jump. The banter in our house between me and the wife is still the same when we met at 18.

50 years of excitement ready to blow

What am I going to do when I’m 50! Well I won’t be worrying, head in hands in despair. I am excited, there will be a celebration of some kind. Filled and surrounded with the love of family and friends. Invitations Will be sent, and they certainly won’t reflect the age that they are the purpose for. Like these from
Paperless post

If you can not see this image please check your settings
That’s what ‘lll be doing not celebrating my 50th alone, but celebrating life as a whole and the years leading to this point

Invites you can send online, there is no limit to how you can contact  people to share your celebration. Dashes of decor in Red (being my favourite colour) and gold, feminine I hear some people shout. Who cares! I’ll be shouting back. Just because I’m getting closer to 50 does that mean I have to reflect back on the past every five minutes? Hell no, I’ll be looking to the future with the onset of our own company.

Middle age success, take it now!

As the great Andrew Carnegie said: Most men don’t succeed till they are way past the age of 40.

And in my case that’s true, I think I have way more get up and go and ambition than I did years ago. I am fast becoming fitter than I was, I have done 10k runs, a half marathon and now training for a full marathon with 3 stone weight loss to boot. And I want to celebrate that fact with the people that have helped me get there. Imagine having pictures adorned around your party venue, depicting the smiles from the faces of the people captured in moments of your life. You can make that possible, and with Invitations that you can design yourself paperless post can make that possible too.

Don’t think of your self getting old, think of it as gaining more experience and access to better lessons in life. Approaching 50? You are in your prime kind sir! You are the vision of mother natures beauty madame! And with that comes a responsibility, the responsibility to not hold back. The responsibility to live your life how you want and to the max.

Take this new found responsibility and go out there and celebrate each year leading to your 50th. And when the big 5  0 comes, take it and embrace it. And share it with the people you love the most.

Your body may have a few more wrinkles this year, but your heart is as young as the love you want to share.

Are you approaching 50? Are you still young at heart? Or are you dreading it? Comment below and let us all know.

Mothers day is another one of them days that just leaves your head spinning. How often do we stand in the card shop just staring into space, trying to choose from thousands of cards. How to start the morning positively

GET YOUR MIND IN THE RIGHT PLACE

Many of us wake up groggy with the lack of sleep still lingering. We want peace and quiet but we just can’t get it, if you live in a big city the hum of the traffic just does not stop. We all have morning habits that seem to get us going, coffee being one of them for most people. But is it the coffee? Or the idea of having the coffee? Our minds become filled with the day to day hustle and bustle tasks. That’s why it appears as though time goes quickly, we become distracted and then start to focus on the negative. Start worrying about the bills, where the money is coming from to pay them so we miss the sweet smell of life and what we have. Focus on the good and we tend to see more of what we focus on, a bit like studying for an exam.

GRATITUDE IS IT THE RIGHT WAY?

Being thankful for something in your life is always a plus, you feel good about having that in your life. Imagine if you will the dishes, doing the dishes and letting your partner do them. Most people do in fact like to make other people feel good, being grateful for your partner doing the dishes makes them feel good because they made you feel good. I’m not just saying just be thankful “thanks for doing the washing up sweet”. No I mean grateful really thankful, you then go on to reciprocate the action. To reinforce this write down what you are grateful for, the brain recognises the pen strokes and the action of you FOCUSING on the good. We all should say thank you more, how many times do you put your hand up to another driver when they let you pass? Makes you feel good when someone does it to you doesn’t it?

My Gratitude journal

POSITIVE ACTIONS FOR A POSITIVE MOOD

So here are a few things that get me in a positive vibe for the day ahead, and I do them everyday mostly in the morning before I even start getting ready for work.

  1. I keep a gratitude journal, I have a goal and I use it as an affirmation and I write it at the top of the page everyday. I then list 10 things that I am grateful for either from the day before, the hours I have been awake already (a cuddle from the wife as you leave the bed) or the things that I know I have coming up.
  2. Now, I have a book a favourite book that I read a section of everyday. I was introduced to it a few years ago and it keeps me positive THINK AND GROW RICH: Napoleon Hill. It is about keeping the mind positive and having faith in yourself, something some of us just don’t have and we are all actually quite amazing in our own way.
  3. Excercise is important you can’t have a healthy mind if you don’t have a heathy vessel in which to keep that mind. It keeps you alert and in many cases stops you from getting tired. You can quite literally obtain more energy from expelling some energy.

YOU DESERVE IT

We all work hard everyday, we are all working towards something no matter how big or small that may be. So we all need a bit of time out and we need to spoil ourselves, let ourselves realise how special we are. Eliminate the bad thoughts and encourage to good thoughts. Take time to chill out in the morning, waking up late and being disorganised quite often determines the sort of day you are going to have. We all deserve to make time for ourselves and appreciate ourselves, if we can’t learn that then how can we learn to appreciate others. Each and every one of us deserve to have the best that we can in our lives, every positive thing that brings good things has to be the right decision right? Believe it or not the list of things that I have put down here, actually does make you feel good does make you feel that positive vibe. I was sceptical when I first started trying it, but it does actually work. There are many expensive gratitude journals out there that you can buy, but I don’t think you need to. Me? I just bought a cheap note book and placed a cover on it with a design that I liked, to me it was more personal it meant more. It would encourage me to continue with the habit on a more permenenat basis, once the habit becomes ingrained you do it without thinking.

TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Try out this small list of tips, try it for a couple of weeks. Even better try if for a month, see what happens and what benefits it may and can bring you. Remember this blog and after if you take up the challenge, come back comment and let me know how you go.

A Full Tummy On Overnight Oats

We should all have breakfast in the morning, or at least that is what we are told anyway. Me? I do, i never leave home without it…..nope, not a visa card! But something in my tummy, it sets me up for the day. And this is one thing i have come to enjoy recently since losing weight and going for the healthier lifestyle.

OVERNIGHT OATS

35 grams of porridge oats
Muller light yogurt of any flavour you wish
Handful of either frozen fruit of chopped fresh fruit
1 airtight glass spring top jar

OVERNIGHT OATS BF

  1. Place the weighed porridge oats in the jar (I am on a plan that only allows 35g, you can add more if you wish)
  2. Place either the yogurt or the handful of fruit that you have on top of the oats (we use frozen as they tend to last longer than fruit left in a fruit bowl)
  3. Pour on the yogurt over the top and coat well (DO NOT MIX AND STIR AT THIS POINT)
  4. Place the lid on the jar and place in the fridge overnight.
Divide your fruit into handful portions
Divide your fruit into handful portions

Finished jar to be place in the fridge for the morning
Finished jar to be place in the fridge for the morning

These will fill you up and is a great breakfast to start on, porridge oats are a good source of slow release energy. I sometimes just have strawberries with them, whatever you do, do not use bananas it does not come out nice.
ENJOY XX

#twitterdown

So with Twitter going down yesterday it appears that most of us rely on social media a lot more than we care to admit. I for one will admit that I had a slight discomforting taste in my mouth when I couldn’t send a tweet to somebody. How many of us felt like that? With social media still taking off in a big way, the world is becoming a great deal smaller in a very short space of time. Social media platforms are being created faster than pizza in a takeaway joint. Conspiracy theories will no doubt be born out of this latest crash from Twitter. And the theorists may well sound the horn of past and fouled IT Attacks from technological terrorists.

#twitterdown was trending yesterday faster than a black military chopper being reported to have crashed. Facebook itself was subject to many downfalls such as this in the past 18 months. With 1.5 billion users worldwide according to the New York Times, they were sorted within a couple of hours.

Loading new tweets was no longer an option

For most of us Twitter is a way to get our blog posts out there, and seen by as many people as we can. Social media has also become a sounding board for many things this world has become disgruntled about. Freedom of speech has taken on a whole new meaning for some, as quite often we are reprimanded for what we may say. But it’s ok, we can say it on here many tweeters just scroll by and it will just pass by unnoticed.  For every social media platform that is born there is an app, and our phones become crammed with them. A way to spend our time, but is it distracting us from what is really going on?

I was shocked by how I felt when I couldn’t post no tweets. I’m new to blogging but I love it. It’s a creativity that I didn’t know I had. But the fact that some of us rely on social media as much as we do is scary. Different words will cleverly be used but ‘worldwide disruption’ leaves me staggered. Will I change? Proberbly not,  I may well forget about it tomorrow or until the next time.

So……on we go taking our time up by checking our phones every 15 minutes to see if the numbers have grown. Rushing home because we have a few blog ideas that we need to get out there. Social media good or bad?……I love it!

What social media are you on? What management apps do you use? And how often are you ON social media sites? Comment below and let us know.

STARBUCKS Vs COSTA: Who wins you decide.

What is there to say about STARBUCKS? What is there to say about Costa? Well, quite a lot I reckon and I like one of them SO much. Think now and decide which one YOU think I like, don’t cheat don’t scroll to the bottom. Read this post decide which one you like and see if we match. So…….here we go:
STARBUCKS (for me) is the pink little bunny sitting in the corner, doe eyed waiting for you to notice him. His holding a bouncy ball waiting for you to come and play. This is the coffee shop that is fun, it knows about adult stuff but it still likes sucking on chuppa chups. The coffee is good (really good) but again it is fun they are fun flavours, my favourite being the White chocolate mocha. This takes me back to when I was a kid, not that I touched coffee when I was a kid I would have been bouncing off the walls at that age. It reminds me of the cowboy with the glasses, the pure white innocence of THE MILKY BAR. Not so innocent if you look at the CALORIE COUNT, (just a little tip, ask it to be skinny and add sugar free syrup for a healthier option)  but all coffees from these kind of places are like that, it IS an indulgence it is a treat. Almost every STARBUCKS I have been in it’s hustle and bustle, and sometimes that isn’t a bad thing it wakes you up its vibrant, energetic and welcoming. Started in 1971 they have far exceeded themselves…. TAX, TAX, TAX, I can almost hear people shouting. MP’s expense scandal I shout back holding my placard with obscenities on it. Starbucks as I said is a fun place a place to take gran, you even have a lady grinning excitedly at you from every cup you look at.

And then you have COSTA! Costa is the big boy, wearing a pair of DM’s but with a suit to match. Costa wants to wake you up but he wants to wake you up with a shake, a shout in the ear and a word of motivation to get your ass out of bed. Costa wants to get things done he is the business man in a field full of clowns. The cups are almost regal in presentation no cheeky gimmicks……’your in Costa ya having a coffee and ere is one of our cups to prove it’. Their brand is what it says on the tin or in this case……what it says on the cup. The Costa joints that I have been in are reserved in comparison, no one talks loud it’s peaceful and you can get work done. I actually have a thermal cup from Costa and it goes everywhere with me. My favourite drink? Caramel latte and as the Barista told me the other day the milk has to be bang on 140 degrees, no more no less. My 2nd choice (as with Starbucks) is the CAFE MOCHA a slightly serious coffee, that stares across the table from under its brow mocking you with the sweetness of chocolate ‘ go on, go on I dare you to sprinkle!’
Say what you like about both these place….over priced, over rated just for a coffee. I don’t think so because you see, you’re not just paying for the coffee. Your paying for the ambience your paying for the welcome, the training that the person has put in to making you a ‘damn fine coffee’ (a scene reminiscent of ‘ Twin Peaks). In both places your paying for lounging about (if you can get one) on a big soft sofa whilst you take a break from the rushing around. Go ahead you deserve it and why not, afterwards you feel spoilt and don’t tell me you don’t.
Let’s not get into the whole tax evasion thing we could go on for days but, according to THE GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER :

Starbucks has made a small profit for the first time in the UK in 17 years with 791 outlets including franchised owned, the pre-tax profit was £1.05m.  Not a figure to be sniffed at and then we come to COSTA once again: Sales at Costa owned by Whitbread rose 17.2% in the first quarter of 2015 with profits estimated as early as April at £1.4bn.
These figures indicate who is the major player in the annihilation of a coffee bean placed in a grinder. Whichever way you look at it and despite the figures personally and almost privately we all have our favourite escape.
Yep you guessed it I FRICKING LOVE COSTA! Give me a Costa now…..give me a Costa at night, morning, now, now and then some more now………I could go on but you get the general idea.
Comment below with what is your favourite chain, and the 1st choice of drink. Give me some ideas and tastes to try. Happy caffine-ating people.

Healthy lunch with SWEET POTATOES

We have been going slimming world now for about 31 weeks and what started out as a way to lose weight changed into a complete life change and brain reprogram. So far to date I and my partner have lost bang on the nose 3 stone in weight each. When i became a taxi driver I ballooned from 12 stone right up to 16 stone 10 (do the math). My partner is an education as she comes up with a lot of meal ideas, and because of the plan we never go hungry. And that’s exactly what slimming world is, it is not a diet but a healthy eating plan a re-education of how you view food, so here we go with the latest invention.

sweet pots

SWEET POTATOES WITH BACON, ONION AND PEPPERS.

  1. Bake the sweet potatoes in a fan oven  mark 200 until they are soft inside (make sure to prick with a fork first)
  2. Cook lean or medallions of bacon in a non stick pan with a few sprays of fry light cooking oil
  3. Chop one onion and 2 peppers (any colour) and toss into the bacon and cook together
  4. Once the potatoes are soft half and scoop out the inside and place into a separate bowl
  5. Once the bacon mix is cooked to taste, chop and place in the bowl with the mush from the potatoes.
  6. Mix well and combine together and place back into the skins of the sweet potatoes
  7. Add a sprinkling of grated cheese on top ( if you are on the slimming world plan either syn the cheese (weighed) or count it as your HEA
  8. Serve with a massive side salad
Sweet potatoes with bacon, peppers and onion
Sweet potatoes with bacon, peppers and onion

Those of you on the Slimming world plan will know all about the syns that you could add to this recipe, having said that we had the cheese as our HEA, so it is completely syn free. Those of you not on this plan SYN FREE and FREE FOODS basically means (believe it or not) you can eat as much of this as you want.

Enjoy  xxx

2015 in review

So 2016 is upon is and it is indeed a new year, are you making any resolutions? Have you set any goals that you want to achieve?  I started this blog in August just to see if I could do it and where I could take it. Already I feel I have done well in such a short space of time and I think I know the direction of where it’s going to go in 2016. I also have a YouTube channel that I am going to try and develop, I really want to try and get more followers giving me the confidence to produce better content.

I would like to give a big thank you to everyone single person that has either watched one of my videos, read my blog and commented on both. I truly am very gratful, I extend that to anyone that has retweeted my tweets that has helped me massively. A big Massive thank you to every single person that has taken an interest in following me and interested in what I have to say.

I am so looking forward to 2016 and what it may bring, I have learnt a few things and continue to learn from other bloggers that visit my blog and channel.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 690 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 12 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

Thank you to you all

xxxxxxxxxx
